CASE STUDIES / PROCESS ANALYSIS

Investigation issues in practice

How evidence and investigation can shape the questions that matter.

The following are issue and process analyses. They are not represented client matters, testimonials or claims of funds recovered.

Investment platform withdrawal demands

The issue

A person transfers cryptocurrency to an investment platform and later receives additional payment demands when seeking a withdrawal. The visible account balance does not establish that the displayed assets exist or can be withdrawn.

The investigative questions

Which exact platform and domain were involved? What representations were made? Which transfers can be matched to records? Does the transaction path identify a service or reporting route? Are there relevant primary warnings concerning the exact entity or a clone?

The evidence to organize

Preserve communications, exact URLs, account screenshots, payment confirmations and transaction identifiers. Build a chronology of deposits, withdrawal attempts and further demands. Keep a legitimate namesake separate from an impersonating platform.

The practical next steps

Findings may support an exchange report, a discussion with independent legal counsel or a report to appropriate authorities. Each route needs the relevant evidence and has its own requirements. An on-screen balance or fee demand is not a promise of recoverable funds.

Suspected wallet compromise

The issue

Unexpected transfers appear in a wallet after interaction with an application or an apparent account-security event. The immediate priorities are reducing further exposure and preserving a reliable record.

The investigative questions

Which transactions were authorized, which are disputed, and what occurred immediately beforehand? Were permissions granted to an application? Can the relevant assets be traced to another address or service? Which conclusions require separate technical assessment?

The evidence to organize

Record transaction identifiers, network, wallet addresses, relevant application links and the timing of suspicious messages or account changes. Preserve the original context and do not include the seed phrase or private key.

The practical next steps

Investigative findings can inform reporting and a recovery strategy. Protection guidance may include reviewing permissions and official account-security settings, while any asset movement or technical remediation requires careful case-specific consideration.
